Invoicing for Tutors and Online Educators in Hungary — VAT Exemption, Foreign Currency, Free Plan
As a tutor, coach, or online educator in Hungary, invoicing is relatively straightforward — but from September 2026, the e-receipt obligation also covers private student sessions. Bizonylat is a mobile-friendly invoicing platform that handles VAT exemption, foreign currency invoices for international students, and NAV compliance automatically. The free plan covers up to 10 invoices per month.
VAT exemption for tutors
Most sole trader tutors in Hungary operate below the annual VAT exemption threshold (currently HUF 12 million). This means:
- Your invoices show 0% VAT.
- The mandatory "Mentes az adó alól" notation is required.
- Bizonylat applies this automatically when configured for VAT exemption.
If you approach the annual threshold, consult your accountant about switching to a VAT-registered setup.
Invoicing international students in foreign currency
If you teach students from abroad — online in EUR, USD, or other currencies — Bizonylat handles this:
- Invoices can be issued in EUR, USD, or other currencies.
- The HUF equivalent is calculated automatically using the official NAV exchange rate.
- English-language invoices are supported — all fields are freely editable.

Frequently asked questions
Do tutors need to report invoices to NAV?
Yes, if you invoice companies or institutions (B2B), you must submit invoices to NAV Online Invoice in real time. For private students, e-receipts will be mandatory from 1 September 2026 if you previously issued paper receipts.
I teach online (Zoom, Teams) — do I still need to invoice?
Yes. Online tutoring is a taxable service just like in-person teaching. Invoices or receipts must be issued regardless of whether sessions are in person or remote.
Can I invoice international students in EUR or USD?
Yes. Bizonylat handles foreign currency invoices — the HUF equivalent is calculated automatically from the NAV exchange rate. English-language invoices are also supported.
What's the free plan limit?
The Free plan includes 10 invoices per month. Tutors with only a few students often find this sufficient. For more, the Starter plan (2,990 HUF/mo) offers 300 invoices per month.
Do I need e-receipts for private students from 2026?
Yes, if you currently give private students a paper receipt. From 1 September 2026, an e-receipt (e-nyugta) is required. The Starter plan (2,990 HUF/mo) includes this.
Can I save recurring client and service templates?
Yes. Client details are saved and pre-filled for future invoices. Line item templates (e.g. 'English tutoring, 60 minutes') can also be saved for quick reuse.
