Invoicing and E-receipt for Accommodation Businesses in Hungary — Airbnb, Guesthouses, B&Bs

From 1 September 2026, accommodation businesses in Hungary — guesthouses, B&Bs, holiday apartments, and Airbnb hosts not required to use a cash register — must issue electronic receipts (e-nyugta) to private guests. Bizonylat also handles foreign currency invoices for international guests and supports tourism tax (IFA) as a separate line item.

E-receipt obligation for accommodation providers

The Hungarian e-receipt law (effective 1 September 2026) covers all accommodation businesses that issue receipts to private guests without a cash register. This includes:

  • Guesthouses (panzió) and B&Bs
  • Holiday apartments and vacation rentals
  • Airbnb and short-term rental hosts
  • Private rooms and rural accommodation (falusi szálláshely)

From the deadline, paper receipts are no longer valid. You must use an approved e-receipt platform that reports to NAV's Receipt Registry (Nyugtatár) in real time. Bizonylat does this automatically.

Foreign guests and foreign currency invoicing (EUR/USD with auto HUF equivalent)

International guests often expect invoices in their home currency. Hungarian VAT law allows invoicing in foreign currencies as long as the HUF equivalent is also shown. Bizonylat handles this automatically:

  • Issue invoices in EUR, USD, or other major currencies.
  • The HUF equivalent is calculated using the official MNB (National Bank of Hungary) exchange rate on the invoice date.
  • Both amounts appear on the invoice — fully NAV-compliant.

See our foreign currency invoicing guide for more detail on the rules.

Tourism tax (IFA — idegenforgalmi adó) as a line item

Most Hungarian municipalities charge a local tourism tax (IFA) per guest per night. This must be collected separately from the accommodation fee and shown clearly on documentation. In Bizonylat:

  1. Add the accommodation fee as the main line item.
  2. Add IFA as a separate line item with the correct per-night amount.
  3. Issue the e-receipt or invoice — both items appear clearly for the guest.

This keeps your records clean for both NAV and local municipal reporting. The IFA rate varies by settlement — check with your local municipality or accountant.

Frequently asked questions

Does the e-receipt obligation apply to Airbnb hosts in Hungary?

Yes. From 1 September 2026, Airbnb hosts and short-term rental operators who are not required to use a cash register must issue electronic receipts (e-nyugta) to private guests. Bizonylat's Starter plan (2,990 HUF/mo) covers this.

How do I invoice a foreign guest in EUR?

Bizonylat supports foreign currency invoicing. You can issue an invoice in EUR or USD, and the system automatically calculates and displays the HUF equivalent using the official MNB exchange rate — satisfying Hungarian VAT requirements.

What is tourism tax (IFA) and how do I show it on a receipt or invoice?

The idegenforgalmi adó (IFA), or tourism tax, is a local tax levied on guests per night. Bizonylat lets you add IFA as a separate line item on both e-receipts and invoices, keeping your documentation clean and compliant.

Do corporate guests still need a proper invoice?

Yes. If a guest is staying for business and requests an invoice for their company, you must issue an e-invoice (e-számla) rather than an e-receipt. Bizonylat handles both from the same login — switch between the two workflows as needed.

Can I issue receipts on my phone at check-in?

Yes. Bizonylat is a mobile-friendly web app that works on any phone, tablet, or laptop. You can issue an e-receipt or invoice within seconds at the front desk or at the door — no hardware or cash register required.

Is there a free plan available?

Yes. The Free plan (0 HUF/mo) lets you explore the system. The Starter plan (2,990 HUF/mo) unlocks e-receipts, foreign currency invoicing, and IFA line items. Sign up now to be ready before the September 2026 deadline.
